چکیده

We use the matrix-geometric method to study the MAP/PH/1 general preemptive priority queue with a multiple class of jobs. A procedure for obtaining the block matrices representing the transition matrix P is presented. We show that the special upper triangular structure of the matrix R obtained by Miller [Computation of steady-state probabilities for M/M/1 priority queues, Oper Res 29(5) (1981), 945–958] can be extended to an upper triangular block structure. Moreover, the subblock matrices of matrix R also have such a structure. With this special structure, we develop a procedure to compute the matrix R. After obtaining the stationary distribution of the system, we study two primary performance indices, namely, the distributions of the number of jobs of each type in the system and their waiting times. Although most of our analysis is carried out for the case of K 3, the developed approach is general enough to study the other cases (K 4). © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. An Explicit Solution for the Value Function of a Priority Queue

We consider a multiclass preemptive-resume priority queue with Poisson arrivals and general service times. We derive explicit expressions for the discounted expected and long-run average weighted queue lengths and switching costs, the latter one only in the case of exponential service times. We illustrate our results with numerical calculations.

Efficient analysis of the MMAP[K]/PH[K]/1 priority queue

In this paper we consider the MMAP/PH/1 priority queue, both the case of preemptive resume and the case of non-preemptive service. The main idea of the presented analysis procedure is that the sojourn time of the low priority jobs in the preemptive case (and the waiting time distribution in the nonpreemptive case) can be represented by the duration of the busy period of a special Markovian flui...

Delay Analysis of a Discrete-Time Non-Preemptive Priority Queue with Priority Jumps

In this paper, we consider a discrete-time non-preemptive priority queueing model with priority jumps. Two classes, real-time (high priority) and non-real time (low priority), of traffic will be considered with providing jumps from lower priority traffic to the queue of high priority traffic. We derive expressions for the joint probability generating function of the system contents of the high ...

Analysis of a discrete-time preemptive resume priority buffer

In this paper, we analyze a discrete-time preemptive resume priority queue. We consider two classes of customers which have to be served, where customers of one class have preemptive resume priority over customers of the other. Both classes contain customers with generally distributed service times. We show that the use of probability generating functions is beneficial for analyzing the system ...

Performance analysis of a GI-Geo-1 buffer with a preemptive resume priority scheduling discipline

In this paper, we analyze a discrete-time GI-Geo-1 preemptive resume priority queue. We consider two classes of packets which have to be served, where one class has preemptive resume priority over the other. We show that the use of generating functions is beneficial for analyzing the system contents and packet delay of both classes. Moments and (approximate) tail probabilities of system content...
